Just wanted to let everyone know -- I made a community! [livejournal.com profile] cuisigeeks It's a recipe-swapping community, and I've sent invites out to those people on my friends list who I know are food geeks. However, it's open to all, so if you have a penchant for cookery, come on in! I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to post first. *rubs chin* Possibly my flatbread recipe, since [livejournal.com profile] ankoku_jin wanted it.

Most of you may not know this about me, but I'm a bit of a football fan (American football, so there's no confusion). I've grown disillusioned with the NFL, because its ego has inflated to such a state that I'm surprised there's a stadium that'll accomodate two teams, much less just one. I also got seriously pissed off at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for trading John Lynch and Warren Sapp. Their record reflects just how much of a boneheaded idea that was, and it became apparent to me that they had -- in the immortal words of my grandmother -- grown too big for their britches. I really have a hard time caring about the Bucs -- or any other NFL team, for that matter. My 8 year old cousin went to a training camp session for the New England Patriots -- there was time set aside afterward for photos/autographs, and my EIGHT YEAR OLD cousin, asked one of the players if he'd please take his jersey (his little 8 y.o. sized jersey) into the locker room for Tom Brady to sign. Rather than saying, "No, I'm sorry, I can't do that," the prick said, "Yeah, but I ain't gonna bring it back."

That jackass made my cousin cry. I don't even remember the fucktard's name -- but he made a little boy burst into tears. I seethe whenever I think about that story.

So, I've come to pay more and more attention to NCAA football. It's more exciting, and there's less ego, most of the time. My team of choice? The Miami Hurricanes. George's family have been 'Canes fans for-freaking-ever. They're originally FROM Miami. And if it's one thing they take seriously, it's foo-ball. ;)

Well. Last night, Miami was playing the University of Virginia (in Charlottesville). Miami had lost two games, and had dropped from #2 (I think) to #18 in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) poll. This is bad (and they shouldn't have dropped SO far, but that's just my opinion). So this was kind of a big game, because if they lost this one, they wouldn't be able to play a Bowl Game at the end of the season, and if Virginia lost, they'd be in much the same boat (because they're in the same conference, so it was a conference game, which means: IMPORTANT).

I don't know how many of you know this, but I've got a little sore spot when it comes to UVA. I applied twice to their PhD program, and was twice rejected. And shed many, many, many tears over that fact. Whenever the camera would pan over shots of the UVA campus, I got weepy. Still -- after a year. George hates seeing me morose, and so he wanted Miami to beat UVA simply because UVA had broken my heart, not once, but twice.

The Game (in its crucial moments)... )

My god, I love this game.
