More tales of re-tiling

So the tile guys finished the job yesterday, except they have to come back today to do the grouting. They're not here yet, shock.

But what they're doing today isn't the problem. It's what they did yesterday. See, the tile guys tiled the bathroom yesterday, and in order to do that, had to take out the commode.

Leaving a big fat HOLE in the middle of our bathroom. A hole that leads, gosh oh golly, DOWN TO THE SEWER.

Our house? STINKS OF METHANE.

Imagine how easy it is to sleep under those conditions. Not very. Not very safe, either.

We put something over the hole, which helped for a little while, but by midnight, things were smelling bad again. My uncle suggested taking a ratty towel and stopping up the hole, which I did. I think it's better now. Or that could just be the windows open. Hard to tell. Thing is, it seems to get worse when we turn the air conditioning on, so I'm almost afraid to do that. We turned it off last night, and I really don't want to turn it on again.

Eugh. It smells like sulphur.

So -- worst night's sleep EVAR.

And I can't take a nap, because they're supposed to be coming here today to grout. Besides, I have to go out and find Marlowe's Edward II for the final tomorrow. I'll call The Bookery and see if they have it. If they don't, I'll just read the stupid thing online. Or rely on my memory.

Yeah. I shouldn't do that.

*whimper*

God. So tired. *cry*

Oh, whoops. I have to be in Orlando by 10 tomorrow, not noon. Okay. Leaving at 8:30 instead of 10:00.

EDIT: 10:45 am -- GRAR. My landlady just popped by (I hate that they do that), and was telling me that the plumber can't get here until between 2:00 and 5:00 to put the toilet back and UNHOOK THE WATER HEATER SO THE TILE GUYS CAN TILE UNDERNEATH THE WATER HEATER.

Possibly leaving us without hot fucking water.

And I was like, "Uh, yeah. That's a problem. George leaves for work at seven in the morning."

"Well, you could shower at your mom's house, or come over to my house."

And I'm thinking, Did you not hear what I just said?

George? Has not the best temper in the world. George is also righteously pissed because he had a lousy night's sleep last night. If I tell my tora-chan that we're not going to have hot water for... oh, however long?

I do not even want to consider the fallout.

So, I'm trying to make this clear to my landlady, who seems not to be the brightest bulb in the box, and she's like, "Well, those are the inconveniences we have to live with."

And I'm like, "WHAT FRIGGIN' INCONVENIENCES HAVE YOU HAD TO LIVE WITH?"

Edit: 10:56 am -- Yep. George is pissed.

Um.

Why are they re-tiling under your hot water heater? Isn't that, like. In your laundry room/basement or something?

I'm sorry your house smells like poo-gas. *petting*

Hot water heater is in the laundry room -- they were retiling that as well. But, as most Florida houses are single-story, the laundry room is on the ground floor. In fact, most Florida houses don't have a basement. Either they're AT sea-level, or else the earth beneath is mostly coral.

The stink has subsided. Thankfully.

I guess it makes no sense to complain, if they're springing for it, but I don't exactly see the laundry room as being a priority.

Good point about Florida houses lacking basements. Duh.

Hopefully the plumber comes sooner than later.
You'll get to hear all of my verbal motherfucking along the same lines when I (one day, hopefully next month) finally get the contractors in to fix my bathroom. I, too, will have a gaping toilet hole. Only in my case, the cats will probably crawl down it and be abducted by mole people. =D

wait a sec...they take out your toilet and they didn't even stop up the pipe with a rag?! that's, like, one of the *first* things you do when you remove a toilet - to relay the floor, tile, or even replace the wax seal! Jesus, no wonder you had such a rough night -- the tile work should get discounted if not almost given to you for free for such idiocy on their part - i mean, methane is not the "happy yummy friendly gas"...
