Dear Yuletide Secret Santa...

Just about everyone can ignore this; it's a letter to my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide secret Santa.

Dear YSS,

I sincerely hope at this moment you are not looking at your assignment wondering what in blue blazes you got yourself into.  Thank you in advance for all your effort. :)

Once you've gotten over the whole "What have I gotten myself into?!" shock, here are a few things that I really, really appreciate in a fic:

Grammar is good. Good grammar will probably make me propose marriage to you.

I wish I could give you something to go on, but since the four fandoms I chose are so wildly different, there is no ONE thing that would apply to all of them.  That said, I do love subtle, dry humor, snappy dialogue, and I'm even a fan of fluff (in small doses).  I like equal parts angst and fluff, actually, because the two play off each other beautifully. But for this challenge, hard-core emotional trauma isn't really what I'm hoping for. Introspective or serious fics are good, but... yeah. No dead puppies, please. :)

Plot is nice, but not always necessary, and I am a fan of canon-ness, and in-character behavior. That goes for canon pairings, too.

I do have one... weird request.  Or maybe it's not weird -- I'm not sure.  If you happen to be planning on writing for that one fandom that... doesn't seem to match the rest of my requested fandoms (and hopefully that's not too vague!), I wouldn't mind seeing something set twenty years down the line.  Something kind of nostalgic and smoorshy.  If this isn't your cup of tea, I respect that, but I thought it might be helpful if I mentioned it, since I'm pretty sure I was unhelpfully vague in most of my comments.

No matter the fandom, if you can make it holiday-themed, that's great.  If inspiration hits you and it's NOT holiday themed, that's fine too.  Romance is great, if applicable, but don't think you have to write anything over the top or graphic.  In fact... no graphic, please?

Really, if it's canon and IC, I'm happy.

Thank you!
Niamh
