Uh, registering is all well and good, but...

For those of you who are already registered to vote, you might want to take a look on the back of your voter registration card. Here in FL, at least, you have to vote every two years to maintain active voter status. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that voting in the Congressional elections isn't that important, and A LOT of people only vote in the Presidential election. (I don't understand how people can think that voting for the Senate and House isn't important. *sob*)

That's all! Just a little PSA for folks who are registered (and have been for a while).

WHAT.

(Granted, I'm also one of those who does vote in every federal election, but still, that seems absurd to me.)

I'm the same way -- I'd vote anyway, but I was just looking at the back of my new card (post name change), and was like, 'Waitaminit.'

Then again: Florida.

'Nuff said.

Checked mine when we went to register Matsu's car. Virginia is every six years. :Db

They give you guys cards?

My local representative to Congress is such a nut that I am careful to vote every time. He keeps getting reelected, though.

I don't have a problem with voting every two years, but as Som pointed out in an IM conversation, sometimes you're sick, out of town, or just too busy to get to the polls. I'm all for voting in the Congressional elections too, and I think it's important to know who's representing your state. But...yeah.

O Florida.

I voted two years ago in the Senate race (because Jim fuckin' Webb zomg), but the races last year did nothing for me. So yeah, sometimes you have IRL problems, can't make it out that day, or (in the case of the elections here last year) just don't give a fuck about anyone in the race.

Kinda OT, but another reason to vote in every election you can: When you write or call your representative or senator, they can look to see whether you voted in the last election. They're more likely to pay attention to you if you're a regular voter.

Yaaaay same day voter registration. :D (Is it weird I kept my voter registration card from Florida as a souvenir?)
