We are, but I'm afraid we probably didn't listen to the same music. Through high school I primarily listened to 'classic rock' and then shortly before I went off to college I broadened my horizons, but in kind of less 'mainstream' directions like my enduring obsession with TMBG. ;-)

It wasn't until 'alternative' went 'mainstream' (and I had an hour and a half long commute) in the late 90s that I started listening to anything on radio again so I sort of missed the 'hair phenomenon' and the particular time frame you seem to be talking about. ;-)
