Dogs and Heart Attacks
I am a firm believer that dogs are a girl's best friend. It is a by now well-known fact that petting your dog (or cat; let's not discriminate here) can lower your blood pressure. And this is a good thing!
HOWEVER.
Dogs that run joyously away from you and leap -- also joyously! -- into trees and underbrush while you are ALL THE WHILE attempting every single recall trick in your considerable arsenal? NOT SO GOOD FOR THE BLOOD PRESSURE.
Oh, Sydney. Honey. The joy-related deafness is such a problem. And here I thought she'd never ignore me if I had food in my hand.
I think I need a little lie-down now. Jebus.

At one point Darwin had come to me (when I'd called) and Sydney was still off frolicking (and getting ever nearer to a bend in the dirt road leading AWAY from the agility facility), and he was looking at me and then Syd, and then back to me like, "I don't even know, Mom."
Seriously, dude. In every dog book I own, there is a section on what to do if your dog isn't coming when you call. And I was doing ALL OF IT. Finally, she got to a shady patch of grass (soooo close to the aforementioned bend in the road), and flopped.
Oh, my heart.

On the upside, you've got herders. You can teach Darwin to round her up and bring her back. :D

That's our life with Dante. We picked a breed that simply cannot trained to go off-leash. You can recall until you're blue in the face and he'll just keep hunting squirrels :|a
