Funny little Circle-of-Whatever moment...

I just realized that in the course of one week, someone I know has gotten engaged, someone else has gotten married, and someone else has announced a pregnancy.

For some reason, this amuses me muchly. ;)

The pregnant!someone is my baby cousin, whose wedding I went to last year.  She's six years my junior and now my mother is GIVING ME LOOKS.  Help!

Mom: "They're [my aunt and uncle] going to be grandparents."
Me:  "And yet, I'm still happy having dogs."
Mom:  *glare*
Me:  "You think Darwin isn't completely superior to a crying infant?  I'm going to tell him you think that, and he's going to be so hurt."

And the moment in which I reveal my true catty nature:

Mom: [Telling Grampa he's going to be a great-grandfather.]  Erica's having a baby! You're going to be a great-grandfather!
Me:  ...Again.
Mom:  ....Again.
Me:  Except this time it's the grand-daughter that's actually MARRIED doing it.
George: *sporfle*


Yeah, I have two cousins who... have difficulties making even remotely intelligent choices. They happen to be sisters.  Sigh.

I do wonder how the next round of family gatherings is going to go when they start in with the not-so-subtle baby questions (my family could care less about marriage status). It's going to be SO HARD not to say, "Yeah, I had my uterine lining burned out and my fallopian tubes scarred shut, so I'm guessing that's a no." ;P

Mom is... usually pretty okay about things as they are, but I could tell she was a little envious of her brother and sister in-law.

But doggehs! So much better than children!

My mom is pretty resigned to having grand-cats at this point, though I don't rule out possibly adopting a kid later on. But definitely one past the baby stage, I've taken care of enough babies in my life kthx. ;P

I was just having the same conversation with my in-laws last night. They don't have a grand-kid, they have a grand-dog. And that's just gonna have to satisfy them. For now.

We don't... really talk to my in-laws. It's a small issue of my MIL being... um. Difficult. (Read: she sent me a 14 page email the day after our wedding to tell me what a horrible, manipulative, dishonest, nasty person I am. ...So. Yeah.)

My mom is usually totally okay with having grand-dogs. And I am so very thankful for that!
