Clarification

Yes, GT really is going away.  I cancelled the domain and ... have absolutely no idea when the site is going to stop coming up.  But, yes, the domain's cancelled.  I've written our host and told them we're not renewing.  It's just a matter of time.

Yes, the Koicha site is a sure thing.  I'm trying to get an outline for it on paper and will be getting in touch with folks I'd like to mod/admin the various parts of the site.  I'll be in touch with folks for a pow-wow.  (If you were a GT mod/admin, chances are good -- excellent, really -- that I'll ask you to mod/admin Koicha.  Please feel free to refuse if it doesn't interest you.  No feelings will be hurt.)

No, I am not comfortable discussing publicly exactly what the Koicha site will entail.  Probably because I don't know for sure yet.

The target date for the Koicha launch is sometime in December.  Date will be narrowed down as more gets done on it.

No, Koicha will not be a GT clone.  But, as Koicha is a kind of green tea, that should be hint enough that it won't be radically different.

Suggestions, as always, are welcome. :)

How exactly will Koicha be different from Green Tea? I actually went to Green Tea and saved your article on writing OCs before it was lost. I refer to it a lot, not just for writing OCs but for writing in general.

The biggest difference is that Koicha won't be quite as singularly focused as GT. GT was an IY fanfiction forum. There was no room for any other sort of discussion, and things went OT very quickly.

It also seems like there's very little quality fanfiction out there these days, and there was increasingly less for people to discuss and recommend.

It's also looking like it's going to be a highly organized multi-fandom site. A lot of the people at GT had other interests, and there aren't really any forums for some of those other fandoms. (I myself cringed at the idea of a multi-fandom site, because I've seen others that didn't do very well, but George is assuring me that what he has in mind will work.)

The TENTATIVE list of fandoms (TENTATIVE) is:

Inuyasha
Naruto
Bleach
Furuba

I've yet to be swallowed into Naruto or Bleach, but quite a few of the present members are fans, and have lamented the lack of a quality discussion forum. I can speak for Furuba -- there's nothing out there from what I can find. There ARE IY forums, but... well, IY is where we began, and it seems wrong to abandon it.

I'd like to have a place for articles, still. And somewhere for a small collection of fics. But that's where we wander into uncertain territory. I'm not keen on updating a fic archive. I did it once for a different fandom and was terrible at it. I can tell you the things I'd like to have, but I have no idea how they'll be incorporated, if they'll work the way I want, or whether they'll actually get incorporated at all.

There will probably be a fic discussion forum, but I'm thinking it won't be narrowed down by fandom. Or maybe it will. I don't know. We're really getting into uncertain territory there.

I totally need to work on that outline...

The one thing that will be the same at Koicha is the policy of egos getting checked at the door. I had no patience for fandom drama/politics/BS at Green Tea, and I have not acquired a tolerance for it in my old age. ;)

FullMetal Alchemist? I would love to have a place to discuss FMA intelligently.

*toddles off to get ready for work and will bug you further later today ;-) *

Read my mind. From what I've derived on F_W and FFRants, that fandom rivals IY's for sheer wtfery, and it's a shame, because FmA is just splendiferous.

The FMA fandom is an ugly place, but the series itself is fantastic. So it'd be nice if FMA was included ^^.

And Niamh - Bleach being included makes me happy, haha.

Me, too. I fear what'll result when Bleach hits the mainstream, though; it's gonna be pooopular. ;_;

So.... maybe we need to kill them all? Or something. Hmmmm. This wants thought.

Proactive murder is indeed becoming the only viable solution, isn't it?

*looks forward to a site in which cool fandoms can play together free of "OMGEE WHOD WIN IN A FIGT ED OR ITCHY????"*

Bleach has been drawing my attention lately and I'll be checking it out soon, so that's cool that it'll be a part of Koicha. And I'm still behind on Furuba. *sighs* I'll be fixing that soon, however.

Several people have suggested FMA and I agree. It's a great series. I wouldn't mind discussing it in a mature setting.

Curses, I still need to loan you all my Furuba volumes, don't I.

Why do I keep losing your phone number? I suck at this.

I'm getting into the Bleach series, but I haven't read enough to get into fandoms. But I definitely second Naruto and Furuba. Both are great fandoms. Although I find that good Naruto fiction are easier to find on LJ.

Anyway, out of curiosity, what does Koicha mean?

[identity profile] w0rdinista.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Koicha is a variation of matcha (which is a type of green tea, basically). The two main types of matcha (also spelled "macha" and other ways) are usucha and koicha. Koicha is the rarer and sweeter of the two (also pricier). It's also supposed to be higher in caffeine.

So, green tea, but a little sweeter. ;)
