I *WAS* HEARING CICADAS

Okay, so remember my phantom cicadas?  That seemed to be coming from our sound system speakers?

Yeah.  Those cicadas.

AS IT TURNS OUT, THEY WERE CICADAS.  See, because Tora-kun is Mr. Tech Geek Extraordinaire, our whole entertainment system runs through a computer.  So, like, we download TV shows from iTunes, and watch them... on TV.

Tora-kun installed Weatherbug on the computer.  Weatherbug has a feature that will notify you of "extreme weather" with an alarm.  Tora-kun has this feature enabled.  AND GUESS WHAT THE ALARM SOUNDS LIKE?

IF YOU GUESSED "CICADAS," GIVE YOURSELF A COOKIE.

*facepalm*

This reminds me of the time, years ago, that he set his mail notification sound to "Mail, motherfucker!" (if you've seen "Euro Trip," then you know the line).

His mail checked every five minutes.

He got mail every five minutes.

EVERY FIVE MINUTES, I HEARD, WITHOUT FAIL:  "MAIL, MOTHERFUCKER!"

And he wondered why his computer speakers were always turned off by the time he got home.

okay, I feel better now

BWAAAAAAHAHAHHAHHHAHHAHAHEESAAHHSHSHAHHAAAAAAAAA!!

EDIT: HAHAHHAHHHAHHAEESSHEEHAAA!!

Okay, I feel better. The thing about the mail reminds me of my dad's reaction to his new GPS system.

"They should have celebrity voices on this thing!" he said.

"Oh, like Candace Bergen as Sal from 2010?" I asked.

"No, like Chris Rock!" he said. "'What the @#@% are you doin' in this neighborhood, mother%&$#?!' 'Turn left now, mother$#@!!'"

Nor do I. But you know boys and toys.

...Well. At least we both keep each other amused?

When my brother had an AOL account, he had two sounds: one for new mail and one for people sending him messages. The first one was a clip from, I think, Pleasantville of the mother saying, "I made macaroni!" And the second was Jack Nicholson saying "noodle salad," which is from As Good As It Gets. So during long sessons on the computer, you'd hear, "Noodle salad. Noodle salad. Noodle salad. I made macaroni! Noodle salad."

I think it drove my parents a little crazy.
