Not the most auspicious start to a week.

Bronte's red blood cell count is back down to 8%. We're upping her prednisone dosage and the doc wants to re-check her in two weeks, at which point, if she hasn't improved, we have to make the decision between another transfusion and euthanasia.

I think I want to go back to bed now.

That's horrendous.

Poor thing - I hope it's just a glitch cos she's run down.

Did they ever work out conclusively what ails her?

*hugs and misses you*

It's just... nonregenerative aggressive feline anemia. My guess is that it's a genetic thing that mercifully passed over Kisa. We've explored every possibility for a culprit, and clinically there's nothing wrong with her. Her body just keeps attacking itself. And now seems to have stopped responding to medication. And the thing is if we do a second transfusion (which... we really, really cannot afford to do again), it's going to be less effective than the first, increasing the possibility for Bronte's body to reject and build up antibodies against the new blood. So... I don't know. I'm just kind of hoping that the meds work, because the alternative is really not something I'm up to considering right now.

Honey, that's dreadful news, and you must be beside yourself, but the medication may yet work. Hope springs eternal.

I'm thinking of you and your poor kitty, and praying into the bargain.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to remain positive. And giving her scritches and attention every chance I get. Something to make up for the process of medicating her, if nothing else.

*hugs*

::hugs:: I'm so sorry that the news isn't better! Best wishes to all of you.

*hugs* Thanks. We kind of suspected there'd be the possibility she'd be on medication for the rest of her life, but we had kind of hoped she'd RESPOND to the medication, which she seems to have stopped doing. So... I don't know. Just trying to keep a positive outlook and not get too upset and bummed out.

*snuggles teh 'Saga*

Just a matter of wait and see at this point. And making sure I NEVER miss a dosage, even if it's midnight and I can't find her because she KNOWS it's time for her pills and she's hiding like a little NINJA.

It's hard to say what hurts worse. The little darlings getting sicker or the little darlings getting sicker when you're doing everything in your power to make them well again. Poor cutie.

I wish there was something I could say that would help. Best wishes.
