Not the most auspicious start to a week.
Bronte's red blood cell count is back down to 8%. We're upping her prednisone dosage and the doc wants to re-check her in two weeks, at which point, if she hasn't improved, we have to make the decision between another transfusion and euthanasia.
I think I want to go back to bed now.

That's horrendous.

Re: That's horrendous.
Date: 2007-09-10 03:11 pm (UTC)It's just... nonregenerative aggressive feline anemia. My guess is that it's a genetic thing that mercifully passed over Kisa. We've explored every possibility for a culprit, and clinically there's nothing wrong with her. Her body just keeps attacking itself. And now seems to have stopped responding to medication. And the thing is if we do a second transfusion (which... we really, really cannot afford to do again), it's going to be less effective than the first, increasing the possibility for Bronte's body to reject and build up antibodies against the new blood. So... I don't know. I'm just kind of hoping that the meds work, because the alternative is really not something I'm up to considering right now.
