MY VET IS AWESOME.

I called to tell them about all the trouble I've had finding Bronte's meds, and they called around and FOUND A PHARMACY THAT DOESN'T SUCK.  It's not exactly close to home (it's a smallish pharmacy near the hospital), but they have the meds, and the prescription can be picked up in half an hour.

SCREW YOU, CHAIN-STORE PHARMACIES.

Also, homework is done before class for once.  \o\

PS:  I'd wanted to do the holiday card thang last year, but came down with the plague (which effectively halted all plans for holiday baking as well).  So, I have a huge box of awesome cards -- of which I used exactly none last year -- so expect a screened post asking for addresses and such.

Superfast update!

#1:  HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!111!  We're heading out soon to do a cookout with friends, so that'll be fun.

#2:  My Tora is made of win and awesome.  They haven't arrived (and won't for a while), but he ordered me Crowley and Aziraphale from BPAL for our anniversary. :D

#3:  Day five of expensive spa manicure!  My nails still look good, if not UBERSEXY like they did on day one.  The color is still good, there are no stress fractures, no chipping.  Just some slight wear at the tips of a few fingers (because I don't always remember to put on gloves when I do dishes).  And you have to look REALLY CLOSE to see where the polish is worn down.

#4:  I keep forgetting to have Tora convert the voicemail into an MP3. I'm going to forward it to a few of you who are in my cell phone contacts list today.

Aaaaand that's it!

Though it was touch and go for a while, jeez.

So, I started to get sick.  I took Airborne.  I felt better!  I kept taking Airborne!

Periodically, I felt worse.  :P

Then I started to get better!

Then worse.

Things see-sawed like that for a couple of days, and today, though I sound like absolute crap, I'm actually feeling not half bad.  Okay, so taking a shower and blow-drying my hair still leaves me winded, but my throat doesn't feel dry and scratchy anymore, and my cough doesn't sound SO much like a three-pack-a-day habit.  I do still have a headache, but I'm suspecting that's got more to do with the copious amounts of sleep I've been trying to get (and a lack of caffeine) than anything else.

I went out Christmas shopping with Mom on Friday and got quite a bit done.  I still have a few things left to buy, but they absolutely positively have to wait until Friday, because that's when we'll have money again, so I see myself braving the stores very early in the morning, because I do NOT want to muck about with all the OTHER last-minute shoppers.

And I am starting to get panicky about the Yuletide challenge.  Will not default.  Hell, people are still writing pinch-hit fics this late in the game; I can certainly finish one fic.  (I'm also nearly done with OGAM's ch 56, but will not work any more on it until the Yuletide fic is done.)

Mostly I'm kind of tired and congested and headachy, but probably would've been a WHOLE lot worse if I hadn't made a concerted effort to eat decently and take a metric ton of vitamins.

I also haven't sent my holiday cards out yet.  Heck, I haven't even filled the things OUT yet. (Good lord I suck.)  We just got the tree decorated today.  (And had to have a little rest afterwards -- yes, Tora's sick too.  Where do you think I got my cold?)

I did get one of my Christmas prezzies early, which made me very happy -- a Williams-Sonoma slow-cooker cookbook.  Soooooo many yummy recipes in there.  There's a recipe for Cuban chicken I can (and probably will) make this week, since I have all the ingredients for it already.  Score!  (There's also a butternut squash soup recipe and one for vegetable curry that sound omgsogood.)

And that's about it in a nutshell.  Now I'm going to go make some dinner and try and get more of this fic written.  *cracks knuckles*

I present to you, The Holiday Wishlist Meme:

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

*flops over*

Well, I managed not to get sick for Thanksgiving; Wednesday I felt a little icky, but apparently beat illness into submission with... well, it certainly wasn't rest and fluids.  Wednesday I promised to meet Tora-kun for lunch (something I almost never do, so it's a treat -- he was basically alone in his office, and he knew the day was going to be crawling by), and I had to go pick up our friends' Jack Russell terrier.  Sounds easy, yes?  It is, until you consider that Tora-kun's office is forty minutes in one direction, and our friends' home is thirty minutes in the other direction.  We live smack in the middle of these two destinations.  So I drove forty minutes south, had lunch with Tora-kun, and then drove upwards of an hour and a half north (counting for traffic) to get Marley.

A re-cap of my Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday... )

Gotta go pick up the turkey today, and go back out and take another look at the Asian screen I found (and possibly get it).  See, when I go shopping for stuff, and I think I see something I like, I look briefly at it, then at the price tag.  If the price seems a little steep, I walk away.  So I was telling Tora-kun about the screen I found, and he was all, "OMG you should've gotten it!" and then started hammering me with questions about what it looked like. And, of course, I couldn't answer the detail-questions.  *sigh*  Anyway, gonna go back out and take a closer look at it.  So depending on that, I may or may not go to the Asian furnishings/import store in the mall and not squee over any Rabbit stuff they have.

Oh, and because a few of you have asked, I already did the holiday wish-list meme -- I just put it behind an f-lock.

Here it is, still behind the generic f-lock.

Annnnnd... I think that's it for now.  I've got to go through my friends wishlist memes and make a list (and check it twice) and get started on that.

OH -- those of you who are now on the informal Koicha set-up mailing list thingummy: I've only heard back from a small handful of you.  Let me know you got the email, or didn't get the email (so I can resend it), please! ^^

...

Man, I'm tired.  I didn't get to bed until 12:30, and after that I tossed and turned until 1:30, and then woke up for no good reason at 6:00.  There is so a stop to Starbucks in my future.  ....OOH, I wonder if they're doing the peppermint lattes again this year!  *scurries off to get dressed, because those things are TEH AWESOME*
wordinista: (Up to no good)

This week is going to be crazyinsanecuckoo, but I got through today with a minimal amount of swearing, so that's good.

On today's list was:

Clean the house like it's never been cleaned before
Venture out and come home with:
1 tablecloth
6 placemats
2 sets of curtains (and curtain rods)
1 Asian screen
1 covered kitty litterbox
1 ton of kitty litter
1 small table

--I got everything but the screen without going entirely broke, and it looks like I'll be going back to Ross for the one I found there.  I also came back with a new kitty water dish and a couple of microfiber throw blankets (also from Ross, whee!).

Tomorrow I'm getting the turkey. Possibly a bottle of gin wine.  I also have to tidy up the guest room, since Mom wants to crash here while my uncle's visiting. *thinks*  There was something else I was supposed to do...  Don't have to pick up Marley (our friends' Jack Russell terrier) until Wednesday, so...  Hmm.

It'll come to me sooner or later.  Probably later.

Wednesday I have to get Marley, and then I'll start on the brine for the turkey.  I need to find the recipe for pumpkin chiffon pie, too.

Right.  Today was the busiest day, I think.  And it's done.

EDIT: Ah! I remember now! I know a lot of folks on my f-list are doing Christmas cards. Unfortunately I don't have a damned idea whose holiday card posts I've replied to. If you did a holiday card post, could you possibly link to it here? And plz to ignore my air-headedness, kthx.

Okay, I've got a raging headache and have been TRYING to scroll through my f-list to look for those of you doing the wishlist meme.

It hurtses us, precious.  The eyeses, they hurtses.

If you did one, could you please put a link in my comments?  I'd appreciate it.

Also, the offer is still going out for HOLIDAY CARDS!  Please -- even if you THINK I already have your address, I've probably lost it because I suck like that.

Now, off to find Tylenol before my eyeballs fall out of MY HEAD OMGHURTS.

(However, loving the icon [livejournal.com profile] everstar3 pointed me to last night.  LOVING IT.)

Well, I guess it took me long enough, eh? I feel like such a doof, trying to figure out how everything works with this LJ thang. So far, no huge mishaps. Of course, now I'm sitting here with nothing to say. And -- if you know me -- that doesn't happen often. ;)

Bleh -- I never thought I'd ever hear myself say this (or read it), but OMG, I'm so freaking glad that the holidays are over. From the day I handed in final grades, it was nothing but: go here, do this, go there, do that, see this person, run here, buy that, decorate this, wrap that... Seriously, I was running pretty low on good-will toward men by the end, there. Because, really, on my first day away from Hell (eh, I mean "work"), I WANTED to go Christmas tree shopping? Riiiight. Because, you know -- head injury.

Don't get me wrong -- I dig the holiday season. Or I do, usually. But for some reason this year everything just rubbed me the wrong way (which can happen when it's all being shoved down your throat). Like -- okay, I got the fiance an Xbox game (among other things -- that boy was spoiled this year), and his mom calls me to ask me... something about some store that has since gone out of business. So I asked her if she'd bought him any Xbox games. Turns out we'd bought the same game. No big, right? She got hers at a store, I got mine online. In my world, the person for whom it would be a bigger pain in the ass, should not have to return the gift.

Long story short: I'm a doormat when it comes to this woman. I gritted my teeth and put on my happy voice, and said, "Sure! No problem!"

What I actually did: Told him what the gift was, ergo ruining his mom's surprise. (Yes. I know. Bad me.) And then, on the day after Christmas (!!!) we went to the store and exchanged the game for another one (even though it didn't come from that store).

But my point (lost there, for a moment) was that the incident shouldn't have ticked me off as much as it did. I've got a pretty good temper usually, but it was frayed and thin for some reason this year. Ah well. It's over, the holidays are done, and life is slowly starting to return to normal.

But, on a happy note -- it looks like the Brit Lit class that I'm teaching this semester won't get cancelled!!! *does happy dance*
