There were moments when I wasn't sure I'd survive till Sunday.  But I did.  Huzzah!  So, Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!

Okay, let's see...

We went to see King Kong, as I said, and it was gorgeous and wonderful and Peter Jackson's a complete genius, but I didn't share with anyone the little gem Tora-kun's mother shared with us as we were walking down the corridor to our theatre.  We passed one of those big cardboard cutouts for Casanova, and I said I wouldn't mind seeing that, because, really -- debauchery and hedonism in old Italy?  OMG YES.  So, Heath Ledger is in the flick -- he's Casanova, apparently.

And then his mom turns around, looks at us, gestures at the cutout and says, completely straight-faced (because she was serious):  "I didn't know Heath Ledger was a homosexual."

I nearly tripped.

Me:  "......What?"
TKM:  "He's a homosexual.  He made out with that other guy in that cowboy movie."
Me:  "........."
TKM:  *goes on to talk more about said cowboy movie, which she called "Bareback Mountain," without realizing her faux pas*
Me:  ".......Uh, he's not homosexual.  His wife was on the set."   *Thinking:  "And from all reports, she thought it was all really hot, besides."*
TKM:  "Oh.... he's not?"
Me:  "No, I'm pretty sure he's not."
TKM:  *looks perplexed*
Me:  "Yeah.  Gay men play straight roles, too."  *Bites tongue; wants to say, "That's why it's called ACTING."*  "Nathan Lane, for instance."
TKM:  *by this point is talking and not listening; luckily I'm used to this*

So, yeah.  *headshake*

Christmas Eve went pretty smoothly, aside from Tora-kun having a conniption about my taking too long to get ready -- which he apologized for.  We went out to dinner with his folks, his brother and his brother's son, and that was nice (aside from the part where dinner made me sick later that night, but I digress), and then we went to his parents' house for gifts.  His mother buys me clothes one size too small, and buys me the same perfume every year, no matter whether I tell her I've changed scents.  The "big" present kinda floored me, though -- a 2 Gig iPod Nano (!!!!!).  I got a white one and Tora-kun got a black one, and they were both engraved on the back.  Seriously -- could've knocked me over with a feather.

His nephew gave me a gorgeous mug, which I absolutely adore (it's got, like, a watercolor bamboo print on it), and there were stocking stuffers: candy and keychains and "March of the Penguins," and knicknacks galore.  We got home around midnight and I fell into bed, because by that point I was feeling really awful.

This morning was nice -- Tora-kun and I did gifties.  He got me the entire set of Sandman graphic novels (2-8 are here now, and #1 will be arriving on Wednesday'ish), The Dream Hunters, a Gordon Ramsay cookbook, some Peet's tea (fancy Yunnan), some Adagio tea (a variety pack), and some Old Navy novelty PJ pants in Christmas prints, which is a thing with him, and he does it every year.

He loved the things that I got him that weren't on his Amazon list -- The LotR edition of "Risk," The 'Cane Mutiny: A History of the Miami Hurricanes, a couple of Samurai Champloo DVDs, and a couple of other things that have slipped my mind.  (I'm itching to play Risk, actually.)

Then we toddled over to Mom's, did more gifties, and then toddled back again.  I started on dinner (the ham came out SO GOOD, [livejournal.com profile] somnambulicious!!), and now I'm considering making some mulled wine and having a slice of the spice cake that I was angsting over yesterday.  Or, hmm... maybe not mulled wine, but some hot chocolate instead.
