Well, I finally saw The Last Samurai last night (after George took me out to this positively fantastic sushi place -- OMFG, best spring rolls ever... best rainbow rolls ever, best tuna rolls ever, best EVERYTHING ever). I'm usually not one for long, epic movies. I mean, I loved the LoTR trilogy, and I love Braveheart, and Gladiator was all right (though anything by Kevin Costner makes me cringe: Waterworld, The Postman, Dances with Wolves, Wyatt Earp), so while I was curious, because it LOOKED good, there's this little niggling doubt deep inside of me.

I loved it. Everything -- cinematography, particularly. I just loved it. And I'm usually pretty lukewarm about Tom Cruise. I just couldn't get excited about him. Hated Vanilla Sky, wasn't keen on Top Gun, was lukewarm about the Mission Impossible movies (but I do love Ving Rhames), never saw Days of Thunder, never saw that... one movie he did that was set circa 19th C Ireland -- can't remember the name of it. But something about The Last Samurai I really, really liked.

And, oh, the kids? The kids were ADORABLE.

In other news, I'm nearly done my grading. I have all of the research papers/final exams graded, and now it's just a matter of computing final grades, which I do in an excel spreadsheet, because I'm completely math-challenged.

This is a strange feeling -- not being behind in my work. If I'm not careful, I could get used to this...
