wordinista: (Squee! Doggie!)
So, work started back up again today. Can someone tell me who in the world thought it was a GOOD idea to have the last day of our spring break coincide with Daylight Savings Time? Oy. I'm beat. A whole week of staying up late, sleeping in late, and goofing off left me nice and relaxed -- and then what happens? The end of my week gets screwed up, and I go into work more exhausted now than I was before the break.

More exhausted. Buuuuuut, far less inclined to ram my car into the front lobby, so call it an up-side.

So, anyway, before the break, I introduced a couple of students to Fruits Basket. They'd gotten to the second DVD by the time the break started, and by the time we came back, one of them had broken down and bought the second two discs -- she was going to lend them to the other girl.

So I'm standing in the breezeway with two of my students (two good students), and we're laughing and gushing about episodes (singing the onsen song), and one of them turns to me (we'd had a conversation before the break about what signs in the Chinese zodiac WE were) and says, "And, oh my god, you know what? There are times in class when you TOTALLY sprout Momiji ears!"

I just... stared. And then I cracked up. I'm kind of... animated in class. And if it's a good class -- one that's engaged and interested and participating, I get really animated. This girl has me for two classes a day (Brit Lit and Comp II), so she'd know how animated I can get.

Anyway, it amused me. It amused me despite the total lack of sleep I had last night due to stoopid Daylight-Push-Your-Clock-Ahead-An-Hour- To-Totally-Fuck-Up-Your-Sleep-Rhythm-Tme.

Spring break was nice. I took a break from a few things (AIM), and did some writing. Chapter 43 of OGAM got done and posted, and now I get to stare at 44. Actually, I went a little flaky over the week too -- I was sent a chapter to beta read, and completely forgot about it. *facepalm* Dude, I don't know where my head is.

Tampa was much fun, as I said before. We went to see Dawn of the Dead, which was... an entertaining movie, I suppose, but it didn't scare me as much as I'd hoped it would.

The job search continues. No nibbles yet, but I'm not going to give up. It's come to our attention that we both need to get the hell out of Dodge before much more time passes. Living on our own in DC for all that time left us both with this funny little urge to, oh, I don't know, do what we want? Like, say, open windows when it's nice out? Here, not an option. Every time one of us opens a window to let a little fresh air in (god DAMN it gets stale in here), someone's bound to call out, "Hey! What's this window doing open! The A/C's on!" Yeah, never mind that even though the A/C is on, it's still cooler outside than in. It's stale in this house. It's stale, and this business of having to clean up after both Mom and Grampa is getting real old. Seriously -- one of these days, I'm going to come home from work, the dishwasher's going to be clean and full, the sink's going to be loaded with dishes, and I'm going to walk out to my car, pull out of the driveway, and never. Look. BACK. (Well, you know, I'd look to make sure George was in the car first.)

Ugh. I need to go get some fresh air. I'll be outside.
