Why! Can't! Things! Just! WORK!?!?
Aug. 11th, 2004 01:32 pm*insert primal scream here*
I am so, SO fed up with the college right now, and classes haven't even STARTED.
As some of you know, I'm teaching an online Brit Lit class this semester, which I was a little lukewarm about, but decided to give it a try. (Never mind the fact that fewer people than anticipated signed up for the course, which means I'll get paid as if it were an independent study -- by the student rather than by the credit hour, which means I'm making even LESS money -- WHEE!) So I'm responsible for setting up the course website. Not really a problem for me, as I know a little bit about this sort of thing. I also have HTML For Dummies (don't laugh -- it's remarkably helpful). And, when all else fails, I have my own personal computer wunderkind who totally owes me for helping him survive Composition I.
So, I've been putting off the whole website process because I am, at heart, a procrastinator. But today -- today I promised myself I'd start it and, god willing and the creek don't rise, finish it.
It is at this moment 1:19, and I haven't been able to get in to Blackboard (I started this little venture at 11:00 am). My username and password don't work. Now, I seem to recall getting an email from the college about new log-in procedures, so I go to my email and read the memo they sent out. I knew they were changing up the email log-in process (to something totally fucked up and impossible to remember), but I wasn't sure if Blackboard was affected.
Soooo, I pull up the email, and the formatting is so completely FUBARed I can barely read it. (Add to this two kitties who have wormed their way onto my shit list for the day because they seem to have forgotten what the words "DOWN" and "NO" mean.) So I'm trying to piece together this email, and I feel like I might as well be deciphering fucking Sanskrit, and I realize, "Hey, I should update my email account to the new username and password." So I do. Because Thunderbird (my email client) is a pain in the ASS, this takes me far longer than it really should, but oh well. (I love Outlook and Outlook Express, but I have a Mac running OSX, and I don't GET Outlook or Outlook Express.)
All right, so email is updated. Now time to move on to Blackboard. I decode the email enough to figure out what my new username is. I THEN decode said email enough to figure out what my password is. W00t!
Yeah, the elation was short-lived. It didn't. Fucking. WORK.
So now I'm waiting on an email from the head of the "virtual campus" on WTFF I'm supposed to do here, and suddenly I'm completely NOT in the mood to work at all on this website. But I'll be kicking myself if I don't accomplish something on it, so I think I'm going to spend some time scanning in some pictures I plan to use (I've got some gorgeous shots of Tintern Abbey that I can use). Actually, I have even more photos that I COULD use, but they're all safely ensconced in frames and currently making my walls look pretty, and I don't hate myself nearly enough to take them OUT of the frames (b/c putting them back in would be a huge, huge chore).
*takes deep, deep breath and lets it out*
Maybe I'll hang a few pictures.
*considers this*
You know, maybe not. I'm not sure if me wielding a hammer is a very good idea right now.
