All right. I heard back from the advisor for the Digital Media program. Here's what he said:

As far as demand, there is one, but for certain parts of the track are. For
one, Internet and Interactive Media is like the liberal arts of Digital
Media. You can choose from Game Design, to E-Commerce and so forth. The
highest demand I would say would be for eCommerce design and database
programming for the web. Things that are more competitive are for website
design.

The problem we see with students going into the work force is that sometimes
the student takes a variety of classes but never takes classes that are more
specific that a general class. This is one of the pitfalls of liberal
studies. So by knowing what you would like to do, it greatly helps because
then you would plan your course work based on that.

Okay. Right. So I have to know what I want to do before I can choose the classes to go with it. Okay.

...

Of course, if I KNEW what I wanted to do, I might not be in the boat I'm in right now, but whatever.

So, I went back to the CREAT site and saw THIS LINK, which I hadn't seen before. Writing for Media sounds like it might be right up my alley -- I already have an English degree, so it's pretty obvious I'm not completely ignorant when it comes to writing. (I don't know why I didn't see this part of the curriculum before; I think I might have been struggling with trying to control the mild anxiety attack that was creeping up on me.) Now I've written off another email to the DM advisor, asking if I can specialize in Writing for Media while also taking some classes for website design.

George is also being sweet and getting his hands on a buttload of books for me. I don't even remember half of the names of them -- SQL and Visual Basic are all that I remember when he rattled off all the things I should start learning NOW. (I think he's kind of excited that I'm starting to show an interest in something that also interests him, instead of old, stinky books. I hope he doesn't think I'm going to abandon my old, stinky books, 'cause that's just NOT going to happen.)

I've got some degree of skill, I'm a fairly quick learner, I have an undergraduate and graduate degree -- I'm just not that appealing to area employers. So I have to make myself a little more marketable. Heh. I told him last night that I feel a bit like a glass of milk in need of Hershey's syrup to make me more appealing.

EDIT: (Must suppress urge to correct advisor's email.)
