This should be interesting...
Nov. 1st, 2004 01:08 pmFollowing a link from
yahtzee63, I found myself perusing the
yuletide community - the basic premise is that of a "secret santa" draw, only fics from obscure fandoms are involved. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I signed up. I actually saw a few obscure fandoms that I know a lot of you like (Wild Rock, Demon Diaries, for example), so some of y'all might be interested in signing up before the deadline (Nov 8th, I think). I made some pretty obscure 'fic requests, I must say, and I offered up what fandoms I could feasibly write in. This actually surprised me -- I didn't think I had that many obscure interests, but I signed up to write for [EDITED OUT FOR SECRECY AND SNEAKINESS] So, yeah. Had I known they were taking requests for obscure fandoms (I missed that deadline) I SO would have requested something from Maturin's Melmoth the Wanderer -- all-time favorite novel EVAR. But, hey -- c'est la vie.
I just have to hope I don't get assigned anything I can't handle.
Actually,
yahtzee63 is a remarkably talented fic-writer, and if anyone is remotely interested in reading some excellent BtVS and AtS fics, you NEED to check out Culture Vultures and Two Steps Back. All of her fics are so, so wonderful -- I can't recommend her highly enough. She writes for a few fandoms I don't follow, but I have no doubt of their quality. Seriously. She's that good. Hell, reading her got me interested in picking up my hugely-stalled ATS 'fic. Might need a beta for it, though. Someone to kick me in the ass when I slack. Because I procrastinate. And slack. And then I put off the procrastinating to slack some more. ;)
If anyone's interested in being my ATS muse, lemme know. I'm pretty good with grammar and syntax; my comic timing sometimes needs work (though this is more an angsty type 'fic), and I only ask that the individual be well-versed in the Whedonverse and tolerant of the C/A 'ship. And because I don't know how to write short 'fics, said individual should be patient as well. ;)
In other news, Halloween passed quietly, though I am still giving myself the spine tinglies when I think too hard about the creepy urban legends I read the other night. Yeah, that shit sticks with me.
I haven't been writing much, but I've been making up for it with drawing. In fact, I'm itching to go do a little bit of that right now. Just for a short while, at least -- I have midterms I have to grade, and a couple of stacks of papers. Bleh. I should go grocery shopping, but my desk is an unholy mess, the laundry is piled up, and there's the aforementioned grading to do, I may not get to it until tomorrow. Hopefully I won't procrastinate so much that the laundry is STILL piled up, and the desk is STILL an unholy mess...
Anyway -- all my fic-writin' buds: go check out that community! One can never have too many talented scribes!
