A Mac gal no longer!
May. 7th, 2005 01:32 pmWell, it's done. I'm off the iMac and on a PC. It's strange, because I've been using the Mac for the past two years, and while I PREFER a PC, it's difficult to get reacquainted with the PC way of doing things.
Of course, no changeover can be complete without a few casualties. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the two -- no, three -- casualties that I'm fully aware of are sad ones indeed.
First Soldier Down: My "classes" folder, which has lecture notes, final exams, and syllabi. (I have an older version of this folder backed up somewhere, but the LATEST changes I made won't be in there, and I made changes to something on Thursday.)
Second Soldier Down: My "World Enough and Time" folder -- for those who don't know, that's an original novel I've been working on for a LONG TIME. There's... a bit of a bright side, though, which is keeping me from bursting into tears. I had a different folder that had beta'd chapters stored in them. Granted, it's only a prologue and four chapters, but those were the newest, most-tweaked chapters. Other than that, I'm 99% positive I made several backup CDs with all my most important documents on them when we evacuated for the hurricane. It's just a matter of locating them in the mess.
Third Soldier Down: My "Fruits Basket" fiction folder. This held all of my little Furuba short pieces and drabbles. I can get those stories back off of FFN and MMO, and "Bump in the Road" was kept in an entirely different folder (one that survived).
I also lost a LOT of music. *sigh* Music can be replaced, for the most part. It's just a pain in the neck to rip all of those CDs again. Or grab them off the external hard drive. Bleh.
The good news is that my OGAM folder is completely and entirely intact. Holy jeebus, you don't even WANT to know the fretting I was doing over that. (Of course, if I had to choose between having my original fiction intact and having my fanfiction intact, I'd have to go with the origi-fic.)
I also had to download a new LJ client, which I'm not entirely sure if I like or not. The interface is kind of... meh. I may ditch this one and try a different one. Hard to say.
Ah well. Time to go searching through boxes and CDs. *salutes*
