Playground battle scars...
Aug. 11th, 2006 06:05 pmAs a few of you know, I take Darwin to "doggy daycare" on Fridays, because it's my errand-running day, and I prefer not to keep him crated all day long, because (a) I still have a deep fear that he'll have a potty accident in his crate, even though he hasn't had one in ages, and (b) by the time I'm done running all over hell's half-acre, the last thing I want to do is contend with "MOM! MOM! MOM, I WANNA PLAY! LET'S PLAY! C'MONNNN!" Because I am only human, and sometimes I get tired.
So, he goes to this place, and it's a totally awesome facility. Awesome. And he gets to play with other dogs all day long, and he comes home afterward, and is, if you'll excuse the expression, dog-tired.
Today when I went to pick him up, Holly, the owner, pulled me aside and sat me down. My first thought? "Oh, shit. What'd he do?"
Well, he didn't do anything. Evidently, he was playing with a six-month old Black Lab, and the two of them were playing hard. Like, getting up on their hind feet and "boxing" with each other. That hard.
So... the Lab's claw caught Darwin on the cheek, and he's got a little... it's kind of a puncture wound, but it also seems to be a little bit of a tear. Not deep enough for stitches, but... pretty deep all the same.
I'm to keep the wound clean and put Neosporin on it, and he should be healed up in 2-3 days.
Am I still going to bring him to daycare? Yes. Because I know that dogs play rough -- in particular, I know my boy plays rough. I've seen him at the dog park. He was playing with a Boxer who got on his hind legs and started boxing, and Darwin was like, "Oh YEAH? I can do that TOO, biatch!"
It really looks worse than it is, I think. And he's not traumatized at all. He's his normal, goofy, playful self. Of course, right now he's napping.
He's a little scrapper, my boy.
There may be pictures to follow. (Yes, yes, I know -- I still have to share the wedding pics. I procrastinate liek whoa.) If I do post pics, no calling him "Scarface." ;)
