Aug. 25th, 2008 10:54 amHave been pleasantly busy this morning -- I walked the dogs, cleaned the kitchen, dusted, vacuumed, and got a load of laundry started. I'm... more or less squared away for the rest of the day, which gives me plenty of time to work on some writing. :D
Walking the dogs is usually a trial during this time of year. At the summer's start (May/June), if I'm out of the house by 9:30, then I can escape the heat of the day. By July, that start time is pushed back to about 8. By August, there's no hope whatsoever, and I just have to get out as early as I can to avoid the worst of it. Today, I got out a little before 8:30, which is really quite good for me. I took them out on our regular nature trail and hoped for a breeze to make things bearable.
What I had not hoped for was humidity so stifling that I'm nearly certain I could feel pockets of almost-steam rising from the ground and the canal as I walked. There are a few portions of the reserve that were still flooded, and one portion in particular where I am pretty damned sure something dead is rotting. But we made it, and human and puppies are all quite cooled down to normal.
Apropos of nothing, I'm thinking about playing the piano again. We recently (well, okay, a few months ago) moved the piano from Mom's house to mine, and it's been sitting here in the office area, and I'm finding myself wondering if I can still play "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from memory (I doubt it). There's no doubt I'm horribly rusty, but... I kind of miss it. Basically the piano's been sitting here, taunting me, and so far I've managed to ignore it (because I know I'm going to be loltastically BAD). But... yeah, I think maybe I'll poke at that a bit today too.
