Actually, I can't even overload on classes. Adjuncts are only allowed to teach four classes. And, actually, four classes is a LOT to teach. I never would have thought so, but it really is. Say, for instance, I'm teaching four Comp I classes, like I did last semester. All four of them had 22 people. So that's 88 students, all writing 6,000 words over the course of the semester. I did the math once; it was depressing. I feel bad when I can't get the assignments back to them quickly, but it's so hard to keep on top of grading sometimes. Especially when I know that 90% of my time is pointing out where a comma does and does not go. :P
