The biggest difference is that Koicha won't be quite as singularly focused as GT. GT was an IY fanfiction forum. There was no room for any other sort of discussion, and things went OT very quickly.
It also seems like there's very little quality fanfiction out there these days, and there was increasingly less for people to discuss and recommend.
It's also looking like it's going to be a highly organized multi-fandom site. A lot of the people at GT had other interests, and there aren't really any forums for some of those other fandoms. (I myself cringed at the idea of a multi-fandom site, because I've seen others that didn't do very well, but George is assuring me that what he has in mind will work.)
The TENTATIVE list of fandoms (TENTATIVE) is:
Inuyasha Naruto Bleach Furuba
I've yet to be swallowed into Naruto or Bleach, but quite a few of the present members are fans, and have lamented the lack of a quality discussion forum. I can speak for Furuba -- there's nothing out there from what I can find. There ARE IY forums, but... well, IY is where we began, and it seems wrong to abandon it.
I'd like to have a place for articles, still. And somewhere for a small collection of fics. But that's where we wander into uncertain territory. I'm not keen on updating a fic archive. I did it once for a different fandom and was terrible at it. I can tell you the things I'd like to have, but I have no idea how they'll be incorporated, if they'll work the way I want, or whether they'll actually get incorporated at all.
There will probably be a fic discussion forum, but I'm thinking it won't be narrowed down by fandom. Or maybe it will. I don't know. We're really getting into uncertain territory there.
I totally need to work on that outline...
The one thing that will be the same at Koicha is the policy of egos getting checked at the door. I had no patience for fandom drama/politics/BS at Green Tea, and I have not acquired a tolerance for it in my old age. ;)
