KITTIES!

We brought the girls home today. I forgot to get a carrier, so I snagged one of our many cardboard boxes. I put a towel at the bottom with the idea that it would be more comfortable. It was an interesting drive home, and I'm just glad that we both went to get the kittens, because I would've been going crazy with trying to keep them in the box.

And they now have names! Yay!

The gray tiger-stripe kitten is Kisa (she follows us around everywhere), and the black kitten has been dubbed Bronte. It was going to be Shelley, but that just didn't seem to fit her. So I went through my stack of Gothic novels tossing out character names and author names -- but most of them sound like male names, like Wilde, Radcliffe, Stoker, Melmoth, Bysshe, etc. And George said, "No -- those all sound like masculine names. It'd be like naming her Heathcliff." At that point I laughed and suggested "Bronte." It stuck. :)

They explored for a bit, and they're now napping. They've been getting some hardcore sleep, which probably means they're going to be going positively bonkers tonight. Ah well.

One REALLY sweet moment (actually, several sweet moments -- Kisa falling asleep on George's chest with her ear pressed against his heart comes to mind) came after we got them home. All this week, George has been quizzing me on the care and feeding of kittens -- he's used to dogs, which are more dependent. The question of declawing came up, and I suggested nail-caps as an alternative, but he was all for having them declawed. Well, Bronte was passed out on the couch, and Kisa was curled up on his chest, and he was like, "...We can't declaw them. I just can't stand the thought of either of them being in pain!" This turned me to goo, of course, and I've been assigned the task of finding out more about claw caps.

Now they're wandering around, and we're ... probably being overprotective. :)

It's been too long since I've been around a kitten.
