*sigh*

I wanna go home.

Anyone who's been following the news, the town of Melbourne, Florida might sound familiar right now. Yeah.

I hang my hat in Melbourne. I live there. My stuff is there. My home is there.

They're talking about Frances dumping 20" of rain on us. Almost two feet of water. How in the hell we're going to drive home is beyond me. Standing water, downed trees, downed powerlines... It's going to take for-fucking-ever to get home. And then once we get home, I don't know what we're going to find. I'm finding some solace in the knowledge that the only things in our fridge that could really go bad (if we've lost power, and I think we have) are a dozen eggs and a jar of mayo.

Not knowing is the worst part. I don't know if we lost power because there's now a hole in our roof and water is coming down on everything, or if we just lost power for the usual reasons.

I'm kind of tired right now. Usually I'm more optimistic.

Alcohol helped, so perhaps more of that tomorrow. *tired smile*

Anyway. Just letting everyone know we're still okay.

Well, I managed to get through on the cell phone to Mom's cell phone earlier. It sounds like everyone is okay, and her house has undergone no real structural damage. She said our sliding door has been letting in a lot of water, so the "florida room" in the back of the house is pretty wet. The good thing is that the carpet in there was just put down as a stopgap until they could lay tile, so even if they have to pull up all the carpet, it won't be that bad. They've got some downed branches, and they lost power at 12:30 am, so aside from some inconveniences, everyone is okay.

George's parents have lost the entire privacy fence surrounding their property, the bamboo they planted several years ago is totally down, and all of their landscaping (pretty plants and trees) is pretty much history. They too have lost power.

We're obviously still in Tampa. Winds have started to pick up, and the rain has been pretty steady. We're thinking about doing a LOTR-athon-- at least until we lose power (god, I hope we don't lose power). The cats are starting to go a little stir crazy, but aside from that, all is well. :)
