I now remember why I was so glad to graduate from university life.
Three weeks ago, possibly more though I'm too lazy to check, I sent in my readmission form to the University of Central Florida, so I could start on the road to a second undergraduate degree. They were supposed to have sent me a confirmation letter 7-10 days after the fact. Said letter never came, so I called them.
As it turns out, their online form has been experiencing technical difficulties, and they asked me to fax it to them. Faxing isn't exactly convenient for me, but I did it, re-sending the form to them on Friday. I then phoned the readmission office on MONDAY to follow up, and make sure they got the form. I left a voicemail, but they didn't call me back.
Until TODAY. The day AFTER the DEADLINE.
...
They claimed not to get the form. Would I please send it again?
*headdesk*
Now I rather thought that when a fax machine spat out a little confirmation report that says the document was sent out just fine, I thought that's what it meant. That the document got SENT. I suspect it got lost.
I remember the type of person I was when I was an undergraduate. I was quiet and polite, and did what people told me. When faced with situations such as these, where stupidity was running rampant, I would usually grit my teeth in a smile and do what was asked of me.
I'm a lot older now.
I'm going to re-send the fax. Oh, yes. I'm going to re-send it. But in addition to a fax, I've also sent two emails to the woman with whom I spoke (*mutter*who lost my readmission form*mutter*). See, I had asked her if I could just fill out the PDF file in a word processing program and email it to her. She said that was a no-go, because they needed a signature.
And then I looked at my scanner, and an evil grin broke out. If they need a signature, I'll give them a signature, dammit.
So, I scanned my completed, signed readmission form and attached it to an email. One email has the form in TIFF format, the other has it in JPG format. Both emails took forever and a day to send. :)
I have a feeling she's going to be very annoyed with me when she gets those emails. I also have a feeling that I really don't give a flying rat's ass. I'm also going to send the fax. Possibly twice. Maybe three times. It's a lot harder to lose several copies of something.
When you've dealt with a university as overflowing with bureaucracy as GWU is, anything else is small potatoes. You smile, giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY ASK FOR (which is not always the same thing as what they want), and make them wish they'd done their job instead of jerking you around.
It may seem like overkill, but the deadline for readmission was November 15th -- which was when I called them to make sure the form went through. So, when you don't return someone's call, and there's a deadline involved, that's kind of unprofessional. Y'know? I tried taking care of this weeks ago.
Fnar.
