Time warp?

It was the strangest sensation, and I'm not sure I could recapture it if I tried. I might be able to, but it was one of those things that just sort of happens, and then it leaves you shaking your head, a little bewildered.

Many moons ago (from about 1997-2002), I wrote X-Files fanfiction under the name "Fox's Gal." I've gone through a LOT of email addresses since then, most of them very much defunct -- usually when we changed ISP's before discovering the joys of cable modem. There's one I used with a fair bit of regularity -- my Yahoo! address -- and even now I occasionally check it and am sometimes surprised to find that someone has sent me feedback on something I wrote THAT long ago.

There happens to be an archive that had -- I thought -- two of my stories. Turns out, it had more. Now, I'm not one of those people who's going to get my knickers in a knot because someone didn't ask me if they could archive. Usually the address I included on the 'fic was long-gone -- the person probably TRIED to email me, but never heard back. I understand that.

Funny thing is, I found a story in this archive that I had completely forgotten about. And as I sat here, reading -- my desk lamp off, the apartment completely dark -- I remembered writing it. I actually almost relived writing it. I recall that I was in my 2nd year of grad school, up in DC. I wrote less frequently, for a few reasons. First of all -- X-Files was getting fucking LAME, and I wasn't ever, EVER inspired. Second -- grad school. So, work. LOTS OF WORK. But there was a mailing list I was on -- one that I LIKED, and there had been a challenge to end the series.

I sat there, at this very same desk, typing like a maniac in the dark. They wanted an ending? I had an ending for 'em.

So, I'm sitting here reading, and AS I'm sat here reading, I hear George's voice from somewhere behind me -- the living room. And as I looked up, I realized that for a split second, I really felt like I was still in that Alexandria apartment. I was so disoriented, I wasn't even sure which way to back my chair out away from my desk (in the apartment now, I have to back out to the left, or hit a weird, angled wall).

It actually made me want to sift through some of my old stories that don't suck and post them here. Of course, I'd have to FIND them first. I thnk they're on a zip disk. ...Which I'd have to find. And I'm not sure anyone really READS X-Files fanfic anymore. Well, we'll see if I can find the disks, and I'll take it from there. Though toward the end of the series I started moving from Mulder/Scully to Mulder/Krycek (part of the reason I have a hard time getting into yaoi is because I got rather burnt out on M/K slash), and I think LJ might have rules against posting NC17 material...

But then, if I don't find the disk, it's all pretty moot.

Hmm. Got some other fandom 'fics I may post here too. Just for the hell of it. Feel free to ignore.

And in completely unrelated news -- what is it about pant legs that intrigue kittens so? I have two curious kittens sticking their heads up the legs of my sweatpants and it TICKLES.

EDIT: Holy monkey jebus. I think I just found the frickin' disks. That was waaaaay too easy. Now to hook up the ZIP drive and take a gander at 'em.

I don't think Lj has a rule about posting NC17 material -- there's tons of Lj accounts out there that people use simply to post nude pictures of themselves, post steamy stories, hentai pictures, etc. I'd just post it on the safe side in a friends-only post or behind a cut tag. ;)

Yeah. I'm gonna play it safe that way. Because... yeah. There are some things I just don't want everyone and their brother reading. ;)

Oh cool! I know a lot of senses can trigger intense flashbacks (ie. Taste, touch, smell etc.) But reading a fic you've previously written and experiencing it all over? It's almost eerie, but not quite. It's like your story somehow evoked all five senses at once triggering a flashback of startling accuracy. And to experience that while reading an X-files fic... okay, maybe I'm starting to read too much into this. hehe

Augh, but yeah the X-files really started to suck for me after season 6 (which wasn't my favorite season anyway). And then after Mulder left? Fuggetaboutit. Screw Dogget and Moronica. I want my Mulder!! (Not that I'm bitter or anything) *Hides X-files memorabilia behind back*

Funny, I also have a bunch of X-files fanfiction archived in cyberspace under a different name. And I dabbled into a little slash myself (responded to this Skinner/Krycek challenge) and experienced some hateful backlash from homophobic asshats.

Niamh! Get out of my head! *snickers*

LOL! But why, Megs? I LIKE it here! ;)

Yeah, for me things started losing hope after season 5. That season had some of my all-time favorite episodes. "Bad Blood" (with a yummy, still-unknown Luke Wilson) is one I can still practically talk along with. And then there was the movie, which I'd seen in the theatres and remembered LOVING.

And then I watched it again a few years later. Yeah, I don't recommend that. Plot holes so big you can see them from space.

And then came season six -- you know, mostly I just remember the episode that was supposed to have been set in Florida during a hurricane, and there was an apartment complex, and some sort of monster (sea monster?) living in the pipes, which I seem to recall Mulder thwarting with ... Epsom salt? *shakes head* The fanfic was, for a while, better than the actual show.

And then that whole baby thing? Please, shoot me. Because, of course, then there was an overwhelming crapfest of BAD 'fic, written by hormonally overwraught, maddeningly rabid MSR shippers. Mostly what annoyed me about that whole arc was the way in which Chris Carter thought it necessary to hit us over the head repeatedly with Scully/Holy Madonna symbolism. Actuallyl, the Biblical symbolism really got on my damned nerves, because it was done so badly (and, by badly, I mean with all the subtlety of a sledeghammer).

And the series finale? *shudder*

I've heard they're doing another X-Files movie -- because, you know, Chris Carter has been so overwhelmed with huge amounts of work lately. You just see him everywhere, don't you? Oh, and let's not forget about David "I'm Too Good to Play The Character That Made Me Famous and By The Way, Isn't Tea Leoni TALENTED" Duchovny, because he's just been one busy little bee since ditching TXF.

Do I sound bitter? Ohhhh, just maybe. I hate it when they take a good thing and send it down the crapper. Carter and Duchovny got so self-indulgent towards the end, it just made it impossible to enjoy. Do you remember that episode with Gary Shandling? What kind of crap was that?

So I just pretend that the series ended after the fifth season. You know -- kind of like how a lot of folks like to pretend that BtVS did?

...and what is it with us and ranting about series and their finales? ;)

Hehe. You're really getting comfortable up here in my crazy old brain. We rant because TPTB puts on their "Let's screw around with the story and characters everybody knows and loves" pants and alienate devoted fans. If we don't rant, we open up a can of whoop ass on Chris Carter and Joss Whedon's ass!

Hee! Bad Blood! Best. Episode. Ever! I mean even with Jose Chung's From Outer Space, and all the Bleepin' and Alex Trebeck, you can't top Mulder singing the theme song from Shaft (He's a bad mother - Shut yo' mouth!' hee!), Scully getting a pizza craving while going through the contents of the victim's stomach and Luke Wilson with fangs! Hehehe...

Ahh... now I'm just sad because the show used to kick 19 different kinds of ass, and then it suddenly went wonky.

Ack! I KNOW! What the hell WAS the deal with Scully's Alien!Miracle!Baby!? For one, Chris Carter had to climb over the fin of a pretty big shark to throw that plot line in there. And then after 2 years of convoluted baby storylines, she gives the fricken thing up for adoption anyway. And um, show of hands for how many people even gave a damn? Uh-huh, that's what I thought. (And if the heavy-handed Biblical symbolism got on your nerves, just imagine how I felt with my freakishly thorough knowledge of all things Christianity) And OH! The bad fanfic! *shudders* ... But, um, some of it was pretty good. So many damn good authors in that fandom.

Yes, the movie! Heh, I luuurrved the movie when I saw it, missing continuity fairy and all. It was like a nice little break for all the fans. Mulder sees the mother ship! Scully's still a babe with a frostbitten face! Mulder starts biting his lip a lot and fangirls everywhere (myself included) drool all over their popcorn! A certain honey bee suddenly becomes the most hated little creature in fandom! Mulder eats sunflower seeds and is a true believer! Scully raises her eyebrow a lot and is uber-skeptical! Ah! LOVED IT! hehehe.

Ugh. Don't even get me started on David-Pompous-Ass-Duchovney. Because yeah, dude. You've done SO well since leaving the X-files. A brief pseudo-cameo in 'Zoolander', A role in the the crapfest 'Evolution', a few guest spots on some lame sitcom (what's it called, 'Life with Bonnie", right?) and just recently that drag-queen, but not really movie that I sorta want to see... *claps half-assedly* What a tool.

... But how sick is it that if ever a new X-files movie comes out, I'll still be in the theatres opening night with my 'The Truth is Out There' T-shirt. It's a mental condition, I tell you, I just can't stop clinging to the sunken ship!

Oh jeez, that must've been fun.

But, really, if you're going to make a character angsty by making her sterile while her biological clock is ticking like Big Ben, why ruin it by screwing around and giving her some miracle alien baby?

And WTFF - Mulder has Super Duper Miracle Sperm or something? How the hell did she even GET pregnant?????

Ugh. Don't even get me started on David-Pompous-Ass-Duchovney. Because yeah, dude. You've done SO well since leaving the X-files. And do you know what the funny part is? In 'Evolution' and 'Zoolander,' he played Mulderesque characters. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he left TXF because he was tired of the character, WTF is up with the lame ass type-casting? Evolution was bad. Just bad. I will admit to liking 'Zoolander,' but only because I adore Ben Stiller (the gasoline fight? And let's not forget his massacre of the word "eulogy")

I think I just hated the fact that CC didn't seem to care. He didn't care what he was doing with the series, and he didn't care that none of it made sense -- maybe he thought we wouldn't notice? Maybe he figured the fans weren't as smart as he was? Dude -- emperor's new clothes. Totally.
