Well, I've been trying to figure out what to do about OGAM updates. It's a given that the chapters will go up at Green Tea first. I'm a flake when it comes to this sort of thing, and it's usually a few days before I remember to upload to Mediaminer.
senay_chan suggested posting chapters as an LJ cut. It's probably not a bad idea, but it feels hugely self-indulgent on my part. What I may do is try it for a little while, and if it seems to clutter up too much of my LJ, I'll stop. It feels weird to post it HERE, because... because... I don't know why, actually. Just that it does. Probably because LJ is a place for me to rant about work, about people, about the writing process, about fandom, and about the kitten who is insistent upon climbing up into my lap and then onto my desk so she can attack the funny little moving thing that's moving across the computer screen everytime I type or move my mouse. So it would feel strange to post OGAM chapters alongside my regular ranting.
I'm also hesitant to post chapters as LJ cuts, because the archivists I know (like
katmorning) work hard on their sites, and I like the idea of directing even a small amount of traffic their way, even if it's just one or two people. And I put a lot of effort into Green Tea (though sometimes you wouldn't know it -- and, god, I so don't do it alone), so it's gratifying when people actually GO there. (Speaking of Green Tea, I think it's high time that Miroku image gets a makeover...)
I have decided to scribble up a little parody-fic -- G-rated -- set in the OGAM universe, to basically explain everything to anyone who might be wondering where in hell's half-acre the story went.
Actually, the more I find out about the whole FFN mess, the more amazed I am. People can report fics anonymously, and then -- from what I understand -- a bot goes out and searches the fic for "hot words"? No human interaction whatsoever? I'm not entirely clear on whether it only takes one report or several, just that OGAM's been kicked off for something that happened 14 chapters ago, was posted in October 2003, and was edited down to an R-rating. *rolls eyes* I can't imagine that someone would have a "grudge" against me -- that's... that's actually pretty funny. I mean, it'd be pretty funny if you knew me.
I still haven't decided whether or not to pull the rest of my stories from FFN. There isn't much, so it probably wouldn't make a huge difference, regardless of principles. Just trying to be realistic.
I gotta say, part of me thinks it'd be funny if OGAM were everywhere BUT FFN. ;) But it's got a lot of factors working against it, and I realize that. First of all, it's hella long. Hella fucking long. A lot of archives are selective, and I doubt many archivists would want to take as much time as it would take to read it before deciding whether or not to archive it. Also, and this is another huge factor working against it, it's Sesshoumaru/OC. Now, a lot of people have really come to like Teles, and I've gotten some wonderful, wonderful compliments on her (I get blushy whenever I think about that -- hee...
mishakatt once said Teles felt as if she should be canon; I'll never ever forget that), but I recognize the fact that people are instantly distrustful of OC's. And there are a lot of folks out there with very specific ideas about pairings in the IY-verse. And I'm all about letting people march to the beat of their own drummer.
Ah well. I'll give the LJ cut thing a try. If it's too annoying, let me know.

Date: 2004-07-19 10:24 am (UTC)To use a site reference in LJ, type [a href="web url here"] text message like: Chapter Four - What to do?[/a] using < and > in place of the [ and ].
Otherwise, it works well as an LJ cut!

I wouldn't worry too much about the whole FF.net thing -- put something up in your bio, put up a new page, anything, and just explain what happened and where you can find OGAM now. People who love your story (like me) will advertise for you (there is a link to you right at the very top of my links page that I am currently editing and will hopefully be up very very soon and this is become a run-on sentence STOP) ^_^
ANyways, on another note: I got another idea in my head for some OGAM art -- I'm talking huge, painted (in Painter) canvas of Teles with her sirens around her, all sitting on a rocky cliff; they are singing out into the sea and a boat is crashing into the rocky shore below...and...well, it's all in my head anyways. OH! Also, wanted to ask if I could use a snippet of your story for a short "making a comic" tutorial to put on Green Tea (still getting some more tutorial ideas to spice up the artist corner). :)

Hee, no, I wasn't trying to hint anything. I just keep looking at it, and while I thought it was really cool in the beginning, it now seems a little... meh. I mean, gotsta have the Miroku-sama, but the screen-cap'ness of it just doesn't do it for me anymore.
On a side note, OMFG, those ideas sound unbelievable!! ^_____^

Date: 2004-07-19 03:40 pm (UTC)I think putting it behind a lj-cut is fine. Or at least putting the URL to it on GT. That's where I look for the updates.
And I meant what I said about Teles. She's a wonderful character. You've done a remarkable job creating and developing her, and I love her. She's the only other one I can see Sess with. And even with that, she's the only one I can see him with romantically. I can't see Kagura in that role.
