The weekend has been full of peace and quiet and yummy food and good movies and oh my god, I got a solid EIGHT HOURS OF SLEEP Friday night.  Granted, we had to overnight he dogs at daycare to GET it, but after so many nights of interrupted sleep (Sydney wakes up anywhere between 4:30 and 6:30 AM for a potty break), it has resulted in a v. v. rested bunneh.

Saturday George and I went out for a drive, and it was a beautiful day for it.  We went for a little drive down to Sebastian to this little pet specialty store we know, and then went looking for a place to grab a little lunch.  The store is great, but the owner is kind of obnoxious -- she has this way of asking you seemingly innocent questions, and then when you answer her, your answer is inevitably "wrong," and she then treats you to a lecture about The Right Way to Do Things.  She sort of gives me flashback of my mother in-law, who used to do the exact same thing. (I assume she still does, but I have no way of knowing.)

For instance, the first time I visited her shop, she eventually asked me what kind of shampoo I use for the dogs, and I told her I tend to ask for an oatmeal shampoo when I get her bathed at the groomer.  (I haaate bathing the dogs at home if I can't get outside and use the hose.  We have one tub, and it is less than ideal for dog-bathing purposes.)  THIS then led to a ten-minute lecture on (a) how groomers tend to use cheap products and (b) many dogs are allergic to oatmeal.  THIS then led to her telling me that I ought to use "Tropiclean," which she just so happens to sell.  Sigh.  Lady, I'm already busting the bank on the grain-free kibble, the wild salmon oil, and the chicken/venison jerky treats, okay?  STFU.  So yesterday I slipped in, bought another bag of kibble, paid, and got the hell out (also had the benefit of there being a lot of customers in the shop, one of whom was being told that many dogs in the area have been picking up these teenytiny black ticks that none of the regular preventatives work against, except for the Proventic collar, which you can only get at the vet's office, and that it might not be fleas at all that this particular dog has, but these teenytiny ticks instead, and meanwhile I'm in line like OH MY GOD JUST RING HER UP PLEASE).  I mean, she's knowledgeable, but comes off as very bossy and naggy.

Speaking of the dogs, they seem to be handling the food switch well -- they love the Honest Kitchen food, and they get a grain-free dry kibble in the evening.  So that's good.  And on that dog-related topic, I am goddamn sick and tired of my mother asking me questions and advice about food and training, and then proceed to completely ignore everything I tell her.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Mom:  Do you think Gizmo is overweight?
Me:  Well, can you feel his ribs at all?  You should be able to JUST feel them with your palms.  If you use your fingertips, be sure not to press in too much.
Mom:  *tries*  I don't think I'm doing it right.
Me:  *feels*  ...No, you're doing it right.  Can't feel his ribs at all.
Mom:  Huh.  That's funny -- he doesn't have much appetite at mealtime.  *as she's saying this, Grampa gives both dogs a biscuit, then another*
Me:  ........Uh.  Then you might be overfeeding him?
Grampa:  *gives dogs another biscuit*
Mom:  Do you think so?
Me:  Well, how much kibble do they get?
Mom:  *quotes me a ridiculously high serving size for two low-activity dogs*
Me:  ...That... might be too much.
Mom:  But that's what the bag says.
Me:  *explains how that's not always the best way to go*
Mom:  Oh.
Me:  And if Gramps is feeding them so many cookies, you might want to cut back to just one feeding a day.  Or cut the current portion in half.
Mom:  Okay.

AND THEN, NOT FIVE MINUTES LATER.  SHE'S GIVING THE DOGS COOKIES.  *headdesk*  I mean, I know I'm not a dog expert by any stretch but JEEZ.

Aaaand, let's see.  We watched The Dark Knight last night and it was every bit as awesome as I remember.  And we watched Wanted this morning with breakfast, which was an amazing movie.  George is watching Prince Caspian, which I have... not very much interest in.

So anyway.  Today I'm catching up on some laundry, coloring my hair, and hopefully working on some writing.  I'm having one of those Everything I Write is Tripe days, and the best way to work through it is to just write and accept that it'll probably be sucky, and then go back and work it a bit.  Like clay.

And Monday!  Monday I'm helping the local ARPH rep transport some Aussies to Orlando, so I expect that'll be interesting.

That's the plan!!

Say, do you still use your hotmail address? I just tried sending you something and got a delivery failure notification. I may have typed the address out wrong, but I wanted to check with you first.

Wow. I haven't checked that thing in a couple of months. I'm at gmail now (same pre-address as hotmail) and the .edu account is actually a lifetime forwarding address.
