wordinista: (Busy!)
[personal profile] wordinista
I knew today was going to be busy. I knew it. I needed to go grocery shopping, I have I think one more folder of papers to grade before I'm entirely caught up (*dances*), and I promised myself I'd work on my originalfic and start posting to the journal, which, if you're curious, has been named [livejournal.com profile] original_niamh. Add to this the fact that I'm crampy and retaining water like a biatch, and you have the fixins for a less than pleasant day. Add to that a co-dependent kitty who is freaking out because her favorite human has been putting in 12-15 hour days, and so she simply must be everywhere that I am, no matter where that is, and you have a very cranky bunny. Because, lord, I have enough on my mind right now without a needy kitten tripping me or dashing into rooms that I have just left only to hide under the bed or in a closet, or somewhere else I cannot find her.

So I went grocery shopping. And I found nearly everything on my list aside from crystalized ginger, cranberries, and pumpkin pie spice. Now, the ginger I can understand -- it's a rather unique item, and I found it later at my local produce market (and again at my favorite trendy gourmet shop). But cranberries and pumpkin pie spice??? It's FOUR DAYS before Thanksgiving. And it wasn't as if they were OUT of it -- no, no, they simply didn't have it. They didn't have cranberries or pumpkin pie spice.

Hokay.

So I come home, unload the goodies, put them away, and head back out to the produce market. I had a huge moment of weakness and bought some Asian pears too, because omg good. But, as far as I can tell, I got everything I needed for Thanksgiving dinner -- plus groceries for the week. I made sure to make a list, because in the past, WITHOUT FAIL, my mother would forget something for Thanksgiving dinner, and I was stuck getting sent out to the grocery store for, like, pumpkin.

Now it's 3:00 and I have a folder of grading I have to tackle, but I've been running around since 10:00 this morning, and I'm beat, so I think I'm going to unwind for another half hour or so and then start on it.

The holiday Wish List meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63:

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I have promised myself that I'm going to try and fulfill at least three wishes, so I hope some of y'all post yours. :)

My Wish List:

1. A Shigure LJ icon, just for me --or, really, any type of icon, just for me.

2. Fan art for anything I've written. I hate asking for fan art, because it's always seemed to me to be the sort of thing you shouldn't ask for. But, honestly, very few things put a smile on my face like that. I'm still showering [livejournal.com profile] tatertott in cookies. :)

3. A blue "non-photo" pencil. (Don't laugh -- I can't find them anywhere around here.)

4. A gift certificate to iTunes, Amazon, or Adagio Teas, because I'm hopelessly addiced to music, books, and tea.

5. Any Furuba plushie.

6. A gift certificate to Linens N Things, Target, or Bed, Bath, and Beyond, because I'm STILL trying to make this apartment look more like a grown-up's home and less like "college chic."

7. The perfect miso soup/teriyaki/onigiri recipe(s). I've had more difficulty tracking down GOOD recipes online.

8. The Philadelphia Story on DVD.

9. A Phantom of the Opera gift-fic. --Because I'm just a big sap underneath it all, and I love the musical, and I cannot wait for the movie (pleasedon'tletitsuck). Granted, I do think Raoul is a big pansy, but no one really goes to see this for Raoul, do they?

10. A Sango plushie, so my Miroku doesn't look so lonely.

I'd be happy to send you a plushie. =) I've got two, working on three. Gimmie a PO Box or an address to send it to, and it's yours. Honest.
