...Why do I not remember college being this much fucking WORK?
Magazine writing class -- not a fan so far. Worst syllabus EVAR, and most unclear directions EVAR. Flaky prof.
Renaissance poetry/prose -- liking it, yes, but only because the prof is rockin. This era is not usually my cup of tea, and omg I do not like The Book of the Courtier. But not bad. Good syllabus. We're doing Othello, which pleases me. We're not doing it till March, which doesn't please me.
Art History -- love it. Feel bad that I've fallen behind on reading. Must get back on track with reading, as exam is NEXT WEDNESDAY.
Work: Hate it, hate it, hate it. 8:00 AM classes are Satan's work.
.....And not the COOL Satan, like Milton's Satan. The really scary Satan, like in Dante's Divine Comedy. ("Mmmm... Judas Iscariot... traitorlicious....")
And on that note...

Date: 2005-02-01 06:51 pm (UTC)I actually wrote a paper on how Milton restructured Satan to fit into the profile of the romantic hero to literally demonize said hero, because if you don't make the romantic hero evil, it's hard to convince people that Jesus' style of heroism is actually heroism. Classically speaking, anyway.

Date: 2005-02-01 08:00 pm (UTC)Yup, that makes a lot of sense. Of course the Spenserian idea of romantic hero and tragedy (fairy queen ... *gags*) is totally shot by this theory, since the lovely hero is all goody goody and virtuous while he's questing around ...
But Byron would be generally pleased. *grins* Don Juan, anyone?
