wordinista: (Lil Death)
Well, I promised [livejournal.com profile] katmaxwell I'd review Aziraphale as soon as I could.  So here goes nothing. :D

Here's the description from the BPAL forum:

Many people, meeting Aziraphale for the first time, formed three impressions: that he was English, that he was intelligent, and that he was gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. Two of these were wrong; Heaven is not England, whatever certain poets may have thought, and angels are sexless unless they really want to make an effort.

Ethereal musk, blonde woods, and dusty Bible accord.

(And a link to the reviews, for those interested...)

In the bottle:

I'm not sure what "blonde woods" are meant to smell like, but the first impression for me was definitely musky and woodsy.

On me:

It's warming into a nice scent, I've got to say.  (Personally, I prefer the Crowley scent, but do quite like the Aziraphale scent, so hubby got a hole in one on both of those.)  On me it's very... hmm.  The musk is toning down nicely and the woodsy scent is still there, thought not as sharp.  And ... yes, there's a faint scent, which I imagine is meant to be "dusty Bible accord" that reminds me vaaaaguely of incense.  It's worth noting that when I first put it on, it smelled a bit like "old lady," which amused me more than it should have.

So.  In the end, I like both scents, but am just a tiny bit fonder of Crowley.

Which, if anyone knows me, is how it should be. :D

My Good Omens scents arrived today (best hubby EVAR), and ... okay, I put on Crowley first because I'm weak like that.

From the BPAL forums:

Nothing about him looked particularly demonic, at least by classical standards. No horns, no wings. Admittedly he was listening to a Best of Queen tape, but no conclusions should be drawn from this because all tapes left in a car for more than a fortnights metamorphose into Best of Queen albums. No particularly demonic thoughts were going through his head. In fact, he was wondering vaguely who Moey and Chandon were.

Crowley had dark hair, and good cheekbones, and he was wearing snakeskin shoes, or at least presumably he was wearing shoes, and he could do really weird things with his tongue. And, whenever he forgot himself, he had a tendency to hiss.

Infernal musk, red patchouli, lilac cologne, mahogany, lemon rind, oakmoss, leather, and vanilla husk.

In the bottle, the lilac and patchouli came through most strongly for me, and even though I liked Aziraphale better at first sniff, Crowley went on first because... Crowley.

When I first put it on, the vanilla came through a little more strongly, but as it warmed to my skin, the musk and mahogany and the leather (omg the leather) are the strongest notes.  If I close my eyes and inhale, I can pick out the lemon and the vanilla, but only just.  The lilac fades and I can't really make out any mossy scent at all.

It smells sexy and indulgent, and words cannot express how much I love this scent.  Best. Husband. Ever.

I'll review Aziraphale tomorrow, if I don't wear Crowley again.

Also saw HP today.  Um.  Given the other movies, I kind of went in with rather low expectations.  I actually had no problems with it, probably because I did not get around to re-reading OotP like I'd planned.  It's exactly what I expected from an HP movie -- a decent plot, spiffy effects, and key details either glossed over or left out completely.  Frankly I was more outraged by the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice movie.

I had my first experience with BPAL, thanks to hearing about it from [livejournal.com profile] everstar3 and about a zillion other people on my friends-list.  I'd lurked on the site for months, browsing scents, but never actually committing to anything.  So, finally, I got to a point where I didn't feel guilty about splurging on something so completely unnecessary, and got six imps:

Tempest
O
Jezebel
Anne Bonny
Mata Hari
Hetairae

...and they threw in Languor for kicks.  I've tried everything but Languor, and I have to say, I'm very, very pleased with my choices.

Reviewing the scents! )
