Dragon Banner
You're a dragon. You're smart and cunning, and
enjoy taking risks. Your need for independence
is an advantage, but sometimes it alienates you
from others. As far as *good* and *evil*,
you're pretty neutral--but you may have
something of a wicked streak.

RARR!

(Actually, the first time I took the test I came out as a unicorn, and that's just a little too... yeah. Too unlike me, I think. So I took it again.)

Did not hear back from electrician yesterday. Am calling again today. Also, I have to call and make an appointment for teh boi to get his hair cut next week, and... there was something else I had to do. *thinks* Ah! Call for an appointment to get the oil changed in the car.

I was a little cranky yesterday because all of the latest copies of my original fiction bits were saved on the server, and without power going to the office, I couldn't access anythiing. Buuuut, last night we moved the server out to the living room, so today I'll be able to access and work on o-fic, which is kind of nice. I'm feeling all sorts of ready-to-write today, so I'm hoping my muse is kind to me. (Granted, I've been able to write little silly things, like those fic challenge thingies, and I'm up to something like six or seven pages in OGAM ch 53, but I'd reeeally like to work on the original stuff today.

But first, tea! (OMG, Peet's Irish Breakfast tea is, like, the bestest Irish Breakfast EVAR.)

Okay, so you know how something will happen, and it'll annoy you, but you won't think too much about it, and then a few weeks later it happens again, and you realize that it's something that should have freaked you the hell out?

Yeah.  That was me, yesterday.

Almost-crispy Bunneh! )

There are a few memes out there that I want to do, and they've been stolen from various people.  Hopefully I can keep them all straight:

*content sigh* Okay, now onward with meme-age:

This one I've wanted to do for a while, and both [livejournal.com profile] mscongeniality and [livejournal.com profile] darth_snuggles have done it:

Name a pairing or character (that I'm familiar with, in a fandom I'm familiar with) and I will write one line of a story for it.  However, like DS, I reserve the right to write more if inspired.  :D

I Will Remember You, Sarah McLachlan

It's Probably Me, Sting and Eric Clapton
Do You Have a Little Time, Dido
I've Got to See You Again, Norah Jones
Breakfast at Tiffany's, Deep Blue Something

In other news, I've misplaced my checkbook.  Like, badly.  I had it on the coffee table Monday night, and now it's nowhere to be had.  I haven't used it since -- I rarely use it, in fact.  I'm thinking it might have got mixed in with the trash (we had pizza and wings and beer for the Hurricanes game Monday night), in which case... I don't know.  I guess I should call the bank, but damn, what a pain in the ass.  It either got knocked into the trash, or one of the cats knocked it off the table and... I don't know what.  It's not under the couch, chair, or ottoman, so I'm at a loss.  Bleh.

In other other news, I received my order from Peet's today.  Can I just say, the Earl Grey with Lavender?  O. M. G.  *loves*  I also got some Irish Breakfast, some Golden Dragon Oolong, and some peppermint tea.  I'm waiting to get a tetsubin before I make the Golden Dragon, but I opened the tin and smelled it, and ohemgee, it's divine.  Seriously.  Like I told [livejournal.com profile] somnambulicious, you just want to roll around in the scent of it.  So far, though, I've only tried the Earl Grey with Lavender, and it's gorgeous.  I know a few people who don't like Earl Greys, and this tastes enough unlike an Earl Grey that I'd recommend it to them.

And in other other other news, one of my beloved OGAM betas has told me she simply doesn't have the time anymore to beta for me, which brings me down to two betas for OGAM rather than my preferred three (yes, I'm that anal).  Is there anyone out there who'd be interested in beta'ing for the last ten chapters or so?  Mostly I like folks to point out when I've overlooked a grammatical something, or made a typo, or left a word out of a sentence (or put too many in -- both of which I've done many times).  My big loves, though, are when people point out little lapses in continuity, character behavior, or when a scene just doesn't seem to ... work, for whatever reason.  I can usually catch grammar stuff -- it's the non-grammar stuff I appreciate help with.  (And, yes, the two I have are wonderfully competent, honest people.  However... I have a thing with doing things in threes.  Mild OCD perhaps.  Hard to tell.)

What I don't want?  "Chapter's great! Doesn't need anything!"  I mean, if you like something, tell me (or I may talk myself into changing it), but if something doesn't work?  Let me know, and don't be shy about it.

So, any takers?

This was harder than I thought: )

It took me about seventeen minutes to finish, with about three minutes spent wondering if some of the answers were random ENOUGH.  So, seventeen.  Of course, a lot of people on my f-list have already done this...  So, you seventeen people on my f-list who HAVEN'T done this, consider yourself tagged!

wordinista: (Shiku~!)

All right, so... I did that meme that's been going around. You know the one, yes?

Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. Etc.

There were three I wasn't entirely sure what to do with.  My "Niamh" icons, my Lord Peter Wimsey / Dorothy Sayers quote, and my Shiku-chan icon.  I alphabetized the list by given name rather than surname (because I have a damn lot of Furuba in my icons), and... yeah.  Some of the pairings make me laugh, some I'd like to see attempted, and a couple of them make me want to run screaming.

--Oh, and I had an uneven number, so the first three I made into a threesome. You'll see why. ;)

Cut for teh wrongness... )

Step 1: Pick out 10 books you love. (I've decided that I'm going to stick with fiction and straight prose--rather than including poetry or plays.)
Step 2: Write down the first line (or two, if you feel it necessary)--and try to avoid using specific terms, character or place names if possible. (I used stars to blank them out and only filled in the identifiers after the quote was guessed.)
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess where the quote is from.
Step 4: When someone guesses correctly, italicize the quote and put the title and author after it, with credit to the first correct guesser.

A. Go to musicoutfitters
B. Enter the year you graduated from high school in the top right corner. (You may have to click on Music Resources, then scroll about halfway down the next page to find the lists of years)
C. Bold for the songs you like, strike through the ones you hate and underline your favorite.

If it's not crossed out, it means either I don't know the song, or don't have feelings about it either way.  But OMG, I was so tired of Whitney Houston by my senior year.

Just taking a break from cleaning. Actually, I'm nearly done. Just have to fold a little laundry (we were out of towels, and I can't have my post-cleaning shower without towels), and then a shower, and then I eat something before I pass out.

On a related note, I got the urge to wash down our floors (Italian tile) with a super-diluted water/bleach mixture, mostly because the kitchen and dining room get tromped through a lot, and sometimes the floor just doesn't seem rilly rilly clean. So... yeah. I did, and now the cats are wandering around, sniffing the floors (they're dry now), and Bronte was trying to roll around on the floor before it had dried.

...

We have weird cats.

Speaking of which, the girls have their appointment to get spayed on 8/18~! Yay! I'm also going to take Kisa down to the vet's office, because she's such a skinny, runty little thing, and George is doing a whole "overprotective papacat" thing. She is slender, there's no doubt about that, but she's very active, and a finicky eater. But, better to get her weighed and see where she falls on the chart for kitties her age. (She'll also put on weight after the surgery, which is very good news.)

Anyway -- laundry, then FOOD!

Casting Call

I think it's inevitable that as we read each other's journals we create mental pictures of each other. Post this on your own journal to find out who your friends see when they read about your life.

Two Rules:
1. The person must be in the movies or on TV (but doesn't have to be an actor/actress). The person can be specific to a role (e.g. Jennifer Elhe's Elizabeth Bennet) or just the person themself.
2. You have to post a link to a picture of said person in the comments.

All right, so... [livejournal.com profile] everstar3 has been hanging 'round, and... I think we've been having fun so far?  *glances over at Ev, who is not yet ready to kill me, so it must be going all right so far*  ;)  (As a side note, I do wonder if she's ready to murdalize Kisa and Bronte for being huge, HUGE pains in the butt -- usually at the same time.)

Yesterday we went to B&N and put in reservations for HBP, which we'll either pick up Friday night or Saturday morning (B&N opens at 7:00 am!), and then we, well, ran some errands, which was probably terribly dull for Ev, now that I think about it.  But I showed her some of the, ah, "local color," as t'were.  Then we watched "Fargo," which I'd never seen before and, in retrospect, it seems so very, very wrong that all three of us were laughing so hard during that movie (which we ate with dinner, which also seems wrong, but ah well).  Fun stuff.

Today was spent... heh.  Today was spent vegging with Furuba episodes, all the way up to Ritsu's ep.  (We'd already bawled twice -- Hatori's arc and Momiji's arc, and... yeah.)  So, much fangirl squealing over our favorite moments, of course.

[livejournal.com profile] evilpuppy and The Den of Iniquity have made us promise to call them, which we will!  And [livejournal.com profile] aoi_tsuki1 too...

Have no idea what's on tap for tonight or tomorrow or ... well, I know what's on tap for Saturday (stupid prior familial obligations), but I think it's more interesting not to have every moment planned out.

Other than that, we're alive and well!

Your Pisces Drinking Style

If you're a Pisces, you've probably already heard that you share a sign -- and an addictive personality -- with Liz Taylor, Liza Minelli and Kurt Cobain.
Not only do Pisces like to lose themselves in the dreamy, out-there feeling that only hooch can give, but you build up a mighty tolerance fast.
You're an expensive date!

On the other hand, you're a fabulously enchanting partner, whether in conversation or in crime.
With the right person, you can start out sharing a pitcher of margaritas and wind up in bed together for days.
The phrase "addictive personality" can be read two ways, you know.
Your Signature Cocktails
Pisces rules fresh mint, and you do love a mojito or three -- though a julep will do just as well.
You also like punches, like sangria or the oh-so-aptly named fish house punch.
(Pretty much anything will satisfy a Pisces in a pinch, though -- "drinking like a fish" is an idiom pulled out of the zodiac, not the deep blue sea.)
You're a total chocoholic, and you love creme de cacao (and spiked cocoa).
Your Celebrity Drinking Buddies
Drew Barrymore, Chelsea Clinton, Queen Latifah, Bruce Willis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ted Kennedy, Jon Bon Jovi, Fabio

a. Post a list of 5 fandoms.
b. Have your friends list choose a character from each fandom that he/she thinks most resembles you and justify why.
c. Post in your own LJ.

So, let's see.  Five, eh?  Let's go chronologically!

1.  The X-Files (Seasons 1-5, at least. Anything after that makes me want to cry.)
2.  Whedonverse (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel seem as if they could get squished into one category)
3.  Inuyasha
4.  Fruits Basket
5.  Harry Potter

--I realize that #1 is probably a bit difficult for most of the people on my f-list, but that was the first fandom I got heavily involved with. Therefore, folks who don't know the significance of "No-ho on the rojo," or the importance of getting bile off your fingers without ruining your cool exterior, you are absolved from #1.

*deep breath*

[livejournal.com profile] everstar3 is coming to visit meeeeeeee!

*runs around in circles, squeeing and waving arms*

I'm trying not to go crazy making lists of Things We Have to Do, except that I'm sort of failing in that endeavor, but whatever.

Watch Pride & Prejudice (and fangirl Colin Firth)
Watch all of Fruits Basket  (except for the episode with Ritsu, as our DVD player reeeally hates that disc)
Review key BtVS episodes (Season Two! Season Two!)
Introduce Evvie to sushi
Learn to knit
Drink lots of tea
Make Evvie work on "Pieces of Me"
Work diligently on "A Bump in the Road" (shyeah, work, okay)

...And that's all I've come up with, so far.  I trust Evvie will have no huge problems with anything on the list so far.  Except for the P&P thing and Colin Firth. I know how much she hates him, and that silly book. ;D

Post all fandoms you're willing to write for. This is ... interesting, since I was born in New Hampshire and moved to Florida when I was fifteen. I was consequently teased for having a "Yankee" accent, which, ironically, made me hold on to it more. I do say "y'all," but I believe that's my only concession to the regional dialect. :D

Bleh. I so do not feel like studying for Art History. ... I think I require caffeine.

Oh -- to all who replied to my meme the other day: I'll have interview questions for you... soon. Cramming now.

Hmm. There was something else amusing that I wanted to share. *taps chin*

Oh!

In my Comp II class, we're reading "The Importance of Being Earnest," which is probably my all-time favorite Wilde piece. And, as with "Othello," I'm making students choose roles and read the play out loud in class. When we got to the point where folks were supposed to volunteer for the parts of Gwendolyn and Cecily, no one was volunteering.

No girls, at least.

Finally, one boy's hand goes up. "I'll read it. What the hell, right? Girls read guy parts in Othello." (Which is true.) So, he's my Gwendolyn.

Another guy's hand goes up. "Sure, why not? I'll be Cecily."

Mind you, the first boy is... total class clown. The second boy is ... VERY masculine. A deep, deep voice. A "guy's guy," so to speak.

I have never. Laughed. SO HARD. EVAR.

They were totally playing it up -- the class was DYING. It was fantastic. And I was observed today (for the second time in a semester, which confuses me), but my peer observer spoke with me after class (she also happens to be my mentor AND my Art History professor), and was like, "Oh my god, what was FABULOUS."

Me: "And yet... oddly appropriate. The Importance of Being Earnest, as done by an all-male cast."

K: "Indeed. Oscar would be proud."

*giggles* It's the end of the semester and I'm getting punchy. Is it obvious?
